Have you ever tried checking out a full cart on self checkout? There isn't enough room to empty the cart before you have to refill it again. So you're either piling the paid items on the floor or putting the paid stuff into the cart with the unpaid stuff because the checkout space is too short. So it wasn't just my "wild" kids that caused the problem.
