Phone store worker ignores woman pounding the door past closing. Then he gets ambushed when he tries to leave: ‘Your family photos are none of my business’

Wait 5 sec.

Anyone who has ever worked a retail closing shift knows the dread that sets in the second the front doors get locked. Imagine you shut down the registers, see the overhead lights go dark, and you’re mentally halfway onto your couch. But just then, a frantic customer materializes out of thin air, treating working hours like loose suggestions. Most shoppers eventually catch on when they see a dark hallway and a deadbolt. Yet every once in a while, you get someone who thinks sheer persistence can bend the store’s doors open. But when one such shopper crossed phone store employee and TikTok creator Gabe (@gabectomy), he made sure to teach her a lesson. In a viral TikTok storytime that has pulled in over 100,000 views, Gabe broke down the excruciating ten-minute parking lot standoff with an entitled customer who had decided that his closing duties were the opening act of an emergency upgrade consultation.  Locked doors and dark display cases weren’t enough to deter this late customer The drama allegedly kicked off roughly six minutes after Gabe had officially locked up the shop for the evening. While working on his final closing checklist, he says he heard a loud, frantic thumping on the front glass. @gabectomy I know tomorrow this lady‘s gonna say that I refused to sell her a phone for some random reason she made up in her head but at least deep down we both know that she just didn’t care about her family enough to make it a priority #storytime #customersbelike #customerservice #retail #retailproblems ♬ original sound – gabectomy Looking up, he spotted a woman staring directly into the dark interior, aggressively knocking on the entrance. Because his vehicle was parked right out front, Gabe knew slipping out the back wasn’t an option. He would need to walk straight through her path to leave. “I figure at some point she will get the message that we were closed given all the f—ing lights are off and that the door is locked, right? Wrong,” Gabe said. “She’s just pounding on the door ‘cause she can see me closing in there. And she knows that eventually I will have to acknowledge her.” When Gabe finally grabbed his backpack, water bottle, and turned the deadbolt to exit, the woman didn’t hesitate. Before he could even step forward, she allegedly yanked the door outward, relieved that she had “caught” him. She was apparently acting as though she was about to stroll right into the dark building. Blocking the threshold, Gabe broke the news to her: “Yeah, actually you just missed us. I just finished up closing, and everything’s shut down for the day.” Gabe stood defending boundaries at the phone store against last-minute family drama Instead of taking the loss and walking away, the woman allegedly grew agitated. She pushed back, insisting that she needed a new phone that very night to take better photos for a family trip the next morning. When Gabe pointed out that the shop had been open for seven full hours earlier that day, the customer allegedly doubled down. She claimed that because the following day was a holiday, she had deliberately rushed down at the wire. “She goes, ‘No, no, I was supposed to take the pictures for my family trip tomorrow. I’m going to need you to get me a phone.’ [I said], ‘Oh, yeah, if you were here, you know, 25 minutes ago, I would have. But everything’s closed now, and I’m not about to boot everything back up just for you.’” Crossing her arms, the woman reportedly demanded to know what she was supposed to do. But Gabe was unfazed by the guilt trip and offered her a dose of brutal retail reality. He told her she had two options: tell her family she failed to prioritize the purchase during regular store hours, or take the easy way out and pin the entire blame on him. Gabe then locked the door behind him and walked straight to his car while the customer stood frozen in place, glaring at him like a statue. Only after he backed out of his parking space did she finally throw her arms in the air and sulk back to her car.  After all, a customer’s poor planning doesn’t constitute an employee’s emergency. As Gabe remarked at the end, “Your family photos are none of my business.”
