He said: “I said it many times, I mean, he [André Villas-Boas] is not the bad guy, but the problem is I came back from holiday, and maybe it is something that belongs to me.“He said, ‘You are our second number 10. Sigurdsson first.’ But I was top scorer, and I played two fantastic years. To come back to the club you love and, all of a sudden, you are on the bench, and then Hamburg come to get me back, and then I was really pushing because Daniel [Levy] did not want to let me go.“I was pushing too hard. It was also not really my best performance, but I did the most stupid decision I have ever made in my career—to leave.”The Dutch legend has now confessed again that he has regrets about swapping Spurs for a second spell at Hamburg.Speaking to Bild (as relayed by Sport Witness), Van der Vaart said: “It sounds strange now, but I don’t think it was smart to go back to HSV. I was at the top of my game at Tottenham. I wanted to help HSV and thought: They can’t be relegated. My heart beats for HSV, but from a sporting perspective, it wasn’t the best decision.”Van de Vaart says his Spurs team was the best he played inThe attacking midfielder played for a star-studded Real Madrid side, which included the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, and a Netherlands team littered with stars like Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben.However, Van der Vaart has suggested that the Tottenham team he was part of may be the best he has played in.The 43-year-old told talkSPORT last year: “Before this interview, I was thinking about that time, you think, ‘Wow, that was maybe the best team I ever played in.“I think you have different phases in your career. Of course, Ajax especially in the beginning. Then I moved to Hamburg and I had a great time.“But when you look at team, quality, talent and potential … I think I had the best time at Tottenham.
