Portfolio Review | How to improve my portfolio?

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone, fellow artists! I’m back again looking for advice, critique, and suggestions on how I can improve my portfolio. If you saw my previous post 6 month ago or even left a comment - thank you so much! Since then, I’ve made a number of small tweaks, switched almost completely to Unreal Engine, and learned some additional software and workflows. Compleated a lot of courses, but still, I know I have a long way to go. Small disclaimer: I just started with Unreal Engine. The projects that were made in UE have the Unreal logo on them - if there’s no logo, the project was made in Blender. I mainly work in Unreal Engine, Blender, Substance Painter, Marmoset, started with SpeedTree and GAEA. In addition, I’m familiar with ZBrush, Adobe tools, and DaVinci Resolve. I don’t really have many friends working in 3D environment art, and I also have little to no experience with actual game production yet. My original educational background is in conceptual architecture, so I’m trying to learn as much as possible from people who already work in 3D art, games, or environment design. I’d really appreciate it if you could take a look at my portfolio: https://www.artstation.com/otozh and answer any of these questions: 1. What do you think is the biggest weakness in my environments? 2. If your goal was to improve my portfolio, what would you focus on first? 3. Based on my current portfolio, what kind of project would you recommend I work on next? Right now, I’m considering creating a modular Gothic-style city environment, something like a dense 5–6 story urban area built with a modular kit. Do you think that would be a good direction, or would another type of project be more useful for my portfolio? 4. Is there anything you think I should remove from my ArtStation? 5. Which project do you think is currently my strongest, and which one is my weakest? 6. Based on my portfolio, would you recommend focusing more on smaller, highly polished scenes or larger, more complex environments? 7. Do you know any environment artists whose portfolios you think would be especially useful for me to study as a reference or inspiration? You definitely don’t have to answer everything - even feedback on one or two points would be incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to look through my work. I really appreciate any criticism, suggestions, or advice! submitted by /u/otozh [link] [comments]
