I honestly don't think any married couple should have joint finances. Or if they do, have two separate accounts and then one they both put money into. I had a single joint account with my abusive ex-husband and he took away my control and used it as a way to control me and keep me with him for years. We were married for 9 years with joint finances, and I left him at that point, but he convinced me (wore me way down) into coming back, and when I did he locked me out of it, but my disability checks (disabled partly because of his abuse) kept going into it, and I had no access to my money for years. When he kicked me out (when I was 6 months pregnant) he handed me $1k and told me I had to move out because his 19 year old girlfriend wanted to move in. We'd been married 16 years at that point. My disability had ended by then (it had been through a company I'd worked for, and I was denied for SSDI, I think it ending was a big reason he kicked me out when he did) so I only had that $1k to my name to restart my life. Marrying him was the first biggest mistake of my life, going back to him the second, and merging finances was the third. You think you know someone, until you don't.
