Underwater archaeological investigations have been taking place in Lake Arendsee (Altmarkkreis Salzwedel) for several years. The discovery of Neolithic fish weirs, a high medieval barge (flat-bottomed cargo ship) and a late medieval dugout canoe attracted considerable attention.
