Seeing a lot of misleading claims - including from Manchester City officials - about the 2020 ruling by the Court for Arbitration in Sport (CAS) that overturned City’s UEFA Champions League ban. So it’s worth clearing up the details of that case. To clarify: these are not the same charges as the Premier League investigation. The UEFA charges covered only two sponsorship deals, between Manchester City, Etihad Airways and Etisalat. CAS ruled that because of a five year statute of limitations, all of the charges related to Etisalat were time-barred (meaning they couldn’t be brought) and that while leaked emails showed City officials discussing disguising funds in the Etihad Airways deal, there wasn’t enough evidence to prove it had taken place.
