Rising gold prices, growing acceptance among households and small businesses and a shift from informal to organised lending have fuelled this expansion. Yet, penetration remains low, with organised gold loans accounting for just 8% of household gold value. Gold loans have also overtaken personal loans. Growth is increasingly spreading beyond southern India, with Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh witnessing rapid expansion.
