The singer—crowned “the voice of Gen Z Yearners” by ELLE—walked the red carpet ahead of the ceremony in a retro-inspired ensemble with extra glam to honor her VMAs red carpet debut.Spiro wore a bejeweled nude illusion gown. She accessorized the look with pointed-toe pumps, a tiny bag, and her signature bouffant. The singer recently spoke of her style inspirations in a September feature with The File. “I’ve always loved the ’60s. That’s the era my dad was born in, and he showed me all the ’60s greats, like the Ronettes, the Shangri-Las, and the Supremes, and that’s where the kind of hair inspiration came from,” she told the outlet. “I always loved big hair, especially from British icons. That style felt most true to me.”Spiro added, “I love the style that I have. It makes me feel weirdly more like myself. To know that my hair is going to be the same and to know what outfit I’m wearing really helps with performing.”Spiro is nominated for Best New Artist at the VMAs this year, and is up against Bella Kay, Cortis, Magnus Ferrell, Malcolm Todd, Myles Smith, and Stella Lefty; it marks Spiro’s first-ever VMA nomination. She will also perform during the telecast.
