Tottenham legend Chris Waddle has reminded Spurs fans of one fact about Mauricio Pochettino amid suggestions that the Argentine could return to the North London club. Some pundits are already questioning if Roberto De Zerbi’s job should be under threat after the Lilywhites managed just two points from their first five league games. While there are certainly no suggestions yet that the Italian’s position is at risk right now, murmurs have already begun about the Lilywhites eyeing up other managers. It has emerged over recent days that Tottenham are one of several clubs who admire the work Fabian Hurzeler has done at Brighton, as the Seagulls sit third in the table.Photo by Ben Hoskins/Getty ImagesChris Waddle urges Tottenham fans to remember how things ended for Mauricio PochettinoEarlier this month, Pochettino revealed that Tottenham offered him a contract last season but explained he was unable to accept it before the World Cup.The USA head coach admitted that timing was what stopped him from returning to Spurs and left the door open to returning to N17 in the future. However, Waddle has now asked Tottenham fans not to look at the Pochettino era with rose-tinted glasses and has reminded them that the Argentine was sacked due to poor results at the start of the 2019-20 season.Waddle told BetPack: “Mauricio Pochettino back to Spurs? People forget he was sacked for results. He had a great season, he came and they were Champions League finalists. It was amazing what he did. Obviously the team fell apart a bit, and he ended up getting sacked, and that’s football. “So the fans will probably think, ‘Yeah, get him back,’ because he did well, but then you remember they got rid of him because he wasn’t getting results in the end. So listen, I think he’s got a lot of respect at Tottenham and rightly so, but is it a step forward? As I said, he had real highs and real lows there.“People forget that they got rid of him, he didn’t walk away, they sacked him. Tottenham have had some great managers, really, honestly. You’ve had Mourinho and Conte who have won championships all over the world, and they still weren’t good enough for Tottenham.”Waddle insists Roberto De Zerbi is the right man for SpursThe former Tottenham midfielder remains confident that the Lilywhites now have the right man in place and suggested they should not be thinking about a managerial change right now.Waddle added: It comes down to how the club is run, I think. They’ve changed their philosophy over the last year in how they run things. So I think it takes time. I think they’ve got the right man at the minute in De Zerbi, and I wouldn’t be looking to change manager right now.”One man who agrees with Waddle is Tony Pulis, who has urged Tottenham fans to give De Zerbi some time to forge this squad into a cohesive unit. The former Stoke City boss said: “De Zerbi has many other issues to deal with, from Tottenham’s poor home form to their inability to recover from conceding the first goal in games. But his biggest challenge right now will be to fit those players who have just arrived in with the ones already at the club, into a unit that plays as a team and produces results so that the money the club has spent is justified.“All of this will take time, and patience, and all the kinds of little detail that supporters never see. In my day, we were given time to create a team, and a family. For today’s managers, time seems more limited than ever.“We are only five games into the season but there are already some Spurs fans who seem to think De Zerbi is the worst manager in the world, even though he has proved elsewhere how good he is. I like De Zerbi’s passion, and his approach. That will count for nothing if Spurs don’t eventually produce, but let’s give him a proper chance.”READ MORE: ‘I’m developing’ – Tottenham’s Mateus Fernandes reacts to missing out on Portugal squadThe post ‘They sacked him’ – Chris Waddle warns Tottenham fans pining for Mauricio Pochettino appeared first on Spurs Web.
