NFL betting tips & predictions: Rams and Bengals vying to bounce back in Week 4

Wait 5 sec.

Many of the pre-season favourites for the Super Bowl stepped on a rake in Week 3, with the Los Angeles Rams – who many thought would be a juggernaut – falling to 1-2. There were also defeats for the previously impressive Cincinnati Bengals and the defending champions Seattle Seahawks. We, however, are backing the first two of those to get back to winning ways in our NFL betting tips for Week 4.The Rams led 16-0 at halftime in the Sunday Night Football matchup with the Denver Broncos, only to lose 30-26 following a dramatic fourth quarter. Meanwhile in the AFC, the Bengals’ flying start was ended by their division foes Pittsburgh Steelers in another back-and-forth encounter which came down to the final play, ending 30-27 to the hosts.Five teams improved to 3-0, including the Buffalo Bills and – surprisingly – the Las Vegas Raiders, while five others slumped further to 0-3 – including the Los Angeles Chargers, who fell to the Bills, as well as an incredibly talented Houston Texans roster for the second year in a row. As we move into October, Midnite are continuing to offer American Football fans the chance to catch their unique signup offer. Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels will start this week, and for two more weeks at least – unless they pick up a veteran. The former Kansas Jayhawk threw three passes in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, didn’t complete any of them, and had one intercepted. It can only get better from here, right? The Green Bay Packers have issues of their own to resolve. They were steamrollered 35-14 by the Atlanta Falcons at home on Thursday Night Football. Bijan Robinson ran riot, going for 194 rushing yards – setting the benchmark for that single-game metric in this fledgling season. Not only that but Drake London matched that number in receiving yards – 194 from nine catches, which is just one yard shy of the best receiving performance of the year so far.Any defence would be weaker without the generational talent of Micah Parsons – he’s still battling to recover from his torn ACL. The Pack have still managed seven sacks, however, which is league-average, and this could be a chance to inflate that stat. Mayfield was sacked 13 times – more than any other QB in the league – before sustaining his injury. Rookie signal callers are even more likely to hold onto the ball and take sacks. While the Packers are one-dimensional on offense, and are statistically the worst team at running the ball – averaging just three yards per carry and having managed a pitiful 17 yards in total against the Falcons – they should dominate the time of possession and be able to run a balanced script. Back the Packers to beat the Buccaneers at 1/2 with Midnite Philadelphia Eagles vs Los Angeles Rams – Rams to show championship credentialsTwo more teams licking their wounds entering Week 4 are the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams. Philly were stunned by the Chicago Bears and their backup quarterback Case Keenum – who hadn’t played in three years – on Monday Night Football. The Rams, meanwhile, blew a 16-0 lead in Denver and find themselves 1-2 after being installed as the unanimous Super Bowl favourites at the start of the season. Matthew Stafford was picked off twice by Talanoa Hufanga – once for a pick six, and once as the clock hit triple zeroes as the Rams ran one last play from the 14-yard line. There are certainly signs that the Rams will soon start clicking, however. Stafford has thrown for 885 yards – only Bryce Young and Tyler Shough have registered more. He’s done that largely without Puka Nacua, who’s played just once in their opening three games. They also have a high yards per attempt at 7.8 – a rate bettered only by five teams and a strong running game – their 401 yards on the ground puts them seventh in the league and their 5 yards per carry is the joint-fourth best efficiency. The Eagles aren’t far behind when it comes to rushing – hardly surprising when you have both Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts’ scrambling ability – but are decidedly average in the passing game. 620 passing yards represents the 22nd-best air attack and they’re 18th in completion percentage (63.6%). Both teams have been tough to pass against this season, but Stafford’s numbers have been consistently high in the last year and a bit, while the playcalling and offensive identity has been called into question over the last couple of years in Philly. The Rams are simply the more dangerous team and have more ways to win this one. Tip the Rams to knock the Eagles off their perch at 4/7 with Midnite Cincinnati Bengals vs Jacksonville Jaguars – Cincy to win battle of the big catsThe Cincinnati Bengals have been notoriously slow starters in recent years but not so this time around as they took down the Buccaneers and the Houston Texans in the opening two weeks. Just as they tried to pull away from the AFC North pack, however, their division rivals had other ideas. The Pittsburgh Steelers put together their best offensive showing of the season to win a topsy-turvy battle 30-27 on Sunday. Joe Burrow and co looked as though they would at least tie the game on the final drive – until second-year defensive tackle Derrick Harmon strip-sacked the Bengals’ quarterback to end it.The Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, destroyed the New England Patriots 35-6 – brushing off a disappointing Week 2 defeat in Denver. A miserable day at the office for Drake Maye certainly helped bloat the scoreline – the Jags picked him off twice, including once in the end zone, and pounced upon a bizarre slip of the hand (which was recorded as a fumble). The Florida team have given up just 36 points in three games so far.Cincy’s defence had also made an impressive start to the season, prior to that trip to the Steel City, creating turnovers aplenty and limiting two high-calibre opponents to relatively few points. Statistically however, both teams are among the easiest to pass the ball against – the Bengals have given up the fourth most air yards, while the Jags rank fourth in yards per attempt allowed. They’re both, however, in the top ten when it comes to sacks and – with those two on Sunday – the Jags are one of five teams to have recorded four interceptions. This suggests we could be in for a treat – with both teams moving the ball and scoring points, but with dramatic twists as the two defences make big plays to completely kill drives. I would lean towards Cincinnati with Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase et al to edge it if it becomes a shootout. The Baltimore Ravens should join them on Sunday, however, as they host the 0-3 Tennessee Titans – but you never quite know how a team will look off the back of a long-haul flight. We’ve also already tipped the Bengals to win as well. The International Series lands in London for the first of three games this year. The Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts arrive off the back of a win, with the former taking down the defending champion Seattle Seahawks with backup QB Marcus Mariota. Jayden Daniels is making the trip, and is practising, but it’s still uncertain as to whether UK fans will get to see him in action.Later on Sunday, there’s a Texas shootout between the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. The Texans are drinking in last chance saloon – going 0-4 would surely be unrecoverable. The Cowboys also need a lift after their devastating loss in Brazil. The Buffalo Bills host an AFC East rival for the first time at their new Highmark Stadium – the New England Patriots finished above them last season, but are already two games behind this year. The late window sees the Las Vegas Raiders host the Kansas City Chiefs with both at 3-0 and vying for the lead in the AFC West. The San Francisco 49ers’ unbeaten start, meanwhile, will be tested by the visiting Denver Broncos. What other betting markets are available for NFL games? The tips provided above are our moneyline picks for the week, but you can also bet on the ‘spread’ (handicap). The sportsbook will assign the favourite of each game with a margin (of points) they think they’ll win by – you can back them to ‘cover’ and win by more or back the underdog. If doing the latter, you don’t need them to win the game, you just need them to keep the game closer than that stated margin. This helps bettors find extra value in games that are considered lopsided! You’ll also find numerous player props available – such as touchdown scorers, passing yards, rushing yards, etc.2. How often do underdogs win?Every week! Naturally, however, some underdogs are only listed as such by a one or two-point margin, others could be double-digit outsiders. Instances where these teams win (not just cover the spread) are much rarer.3. What are the best ways to follow the action?NFL Red Zone allows fans to keep tabs on all Sunday games – in both kick-off ‘windows’ – you won’t miss any of the big plays or touchdowns!Throughout the week, there is no shortage of analysis, predictions and statistics you can dive into – whether it’s on the NFL’s official site or on social media.About the authorNathan HillNathan Hill is an experienced sports writer who obsessively follows football – both the round ball and American kind – as well as range of other sports including F1, basketball, darts and snooker.Commercial content notice: Taking one of the bookmaker offers featured in this article may result in a payment to talkSPORT. 18+.
