Favored by $236 over the comebacking Sister Troienne (Munnings), SHELZAWA (FR) (f, 3, Zelzal {Fr}–Shendama {Fr}, by Dr Fong) was given a hold-up ride by fellow French-bred Flavien Prat and when he cut the ribbons loose entering the final furlong of Thursday's GIII Winter Memories Stakes, the bay filly did the rest to score comfortably.Drawn seven, the €45,000 Arqana October yearling was taken back by Prat and bided her time at the tail, racing in the company of Sister Trioenne. Committed to an inside run as they raced around the sweeping turn, Shelzawa was angled sharply away from the inside and slid across heels into the clear with three-sixteenths of a mile to travel.Asked for her very best entering the final eighth of a mile, the filly went to Ultimate Love (Curlin) and kicked on nicely for the victory. Sister Troienne was in a bit of traffic in upper stretch, but finished well in a promising return effort.\Thursday, Belmont ParkWINTER MEMORIES S.-GIII, $200,000, Belmont, 10-1, 3yo, f, 1mT, 1:34.86, fm.1–SHELZAWA (FR), 120, f, 3, by Zelzal (Fr) 1st Dam: Shendama (Fr), by Dr Fong 2nd Dam: Shendaya (Fr), by Danehill Dancer (Ire) 3rd Dam: Shemaya (Ire), by Darshaan (GB)1ST BLACK TYPE WIN, 1ST GRADED STAKES WIN.
