She wore her wedding stack, and for the first time, photographers could zoom in and get clear photos of the diamond-studded wedding band she paired with her old mine-cut diamond engagement ring.Jewelers spoke to ELLE about the band’s design and how this closer look clarifies some details that were just speculated about before.“Based on these new shots, a few things stand out,” Annie Chen, senior vice president of merchandising and design at Brilliant Earth, explains. “The wedding band appears to feature approximately 3 to 4 carats of diamonds, though that is an estimate based on proportion to the hand since we don’t have the stones in person.”“The diamonds appear to be bezel-set with very thin, low-profile bezels, which gives the illusion that the stones are almost floating on the finger rather than being held by traditional prongs,” she adds. “It’s a clean, modern setting style that has become increasingly popular for both engagement rings and wedding bands, as it accentuates the shape of the diamonds while also offering more protection for everyday wear.”Chen, The Clear Cut founder Olivia Landau, and Hera Fine Jewelry founder and CEO Lauren Boc further break down the details of Swift’s band and how seamlessly it fits with her engagement ring.Axelle/Bauer-Griffin//Getty ImagesThe diamonds on Swift’s wedding band appear to be antique cut, too.Swift has an old mine-cut diamond on her engagement ring, which is a type of antique cut. As Steph Mazuera, who founded her own namesake brand that creates made-to-order engagement rings, previously told ELLE, you can recognize an antique-cut stone by its faceting.“Antique cuts have larger, broader facets that create bold flashes of light rather than the glittery sparkle you often see in modern cuts,” she detailed. “They also frequently have an open culet. The culet is the very bottom tip of the diamond, and in many antique cuts, it’s intentionally polished into a small, flat facet instead of coming to a point. That creates the subtle pinhole or window effect you can sometimes see in the center of an antique stone.”Chen believes the diamonds on Swift’s wedding band are in the same style. “The stones appear to be antique-cut round diamonds, which beautifully complement the antique-cut center stone of her engagement ring,” she explains.Landau agrees. “Taylor’s wedding band appears to feature either round brilliant or old European cut natural diamonds set in an incredibly delicate yellow gold bezel setting,” she says. “I love that you can see the individual silhouette of each round diamond, which gives the band a really beautiful, distinctive look.”She adds, “It feels like a vintage-meets-modern take on a classic diamond eternity band. If they are old European cut diamonds, the antique character and individuality of each stone bring a sense of history and uniqueness to the piece, while the delicate yellow gold bezel setting gives it a clean, modern edge.”The wedding band might curve around her engagement ring.Boc and Chen noticed that the band seems to wrap around Swift’s engagement ring seamlessly. “The band looks to have a straight, classic eternity profile sitting against the reverse-taper engagement ring, though it’s also possible there is a subtle contour to the band,” Chen says.“It’s tough to tell if it’s just the photo angle or the rings sliding around on her hand, but it looks to me like the band might contour around her engagement ring, with a curved shape rather than a straight line like a traditional wedding band,” Boc says. “This would mean that her engagement ring is set pretty low to the finger, so a traditional straight wedding band doesn’t have enough clearance to slide underneath and stack flush against it.”It takes precise work to pull off that design, Boc adds. “At Hera, we’d achieve this by scanning the client’s engagement ring to get a 3-D model, then building the wedding band to contour around that model, and finishing with a fit test of the two rings at the end to ensure a perfect fit.”Axelle/Bauer-Griffin//Getty ImagesIt’s unclear whether Swift has a full eternity band or a partial one, which would affect the full carat count of the ring.In the photos from the VMAs, just Swift’s diamonds are on display. For estimated carat count, Boc says, “I would estimate around 2 to 3 carat weight depending on her ring size and whether this is a full eternity or 3/4.”Chen put the amount at 3 to 4 carats. Landau, meanwhile, focused on individual stones in her estimate. “Each diamond appears to be approximately 0.20 to 0.25 carats, creating a substantial eternity band without overpowering her engagement ring,” she says. “Depending on the exact diamond quality and specifications, I would estimate a similar natural diamond band to be valued at approximately $15,000 to $30,000.”The diamonds appear to be bezel-set, which adds to the ring’s durability.Boc, Landau, and Chen all call out the ring’s bezel setting for its diamonds. Boc praised the choice for its durability, saying, “I love a bezel or channel-set wedding band for this reason. The gold that surrounds the edges of the diamonds prevents them from damaging the engagement ring over time.”Overall, the ring has a unique look that fits Swift, according to Boc: “The wedding band has a scalloped effect that feels soft, romantic, and feminine, like Taylor’s style.”
