I built Kolo: a Pokémon multiplayer emulator for Android and iOS, now looking for beta feedback

Wait 5 sec.

I’ve been building Kolo, an mGBA-based mobile emulator that adds online multiplayer to FireRed, Emerald and Liquid Crystal. It’s free during testing, and I’d love feedback on the onboarding and gameplay from people willing to try a beta. Players on Android and iOS can see each other in the world, trade Pokémon, challenge each other to battles and use local/global chat. Your first party Pokémon can follow you, too. Ferry travel connects Kanto, Johto and Hoenn, with regional story progress and shared PC storage. There are two character modes: Normal and Ironman Randomizer Nuzlocke. Nuzlocke randomizes starters, trainer teams and each area’s fixed encounter pool, while keeping appropriate movesets. Fainting is permanent, a full party wipe ends the run, and it has a separate leaderboard. Trading is disabled in Nuzlocke. Both modes get smarter native trainer AI, with improved boss switching and team composition. A big engineering challenge has been keeping saves and trades consistent when phones disconnect or background the app. I’m especially interested in feedback on those flows and whether the character/region selection makes sense to new users. Current beta: 0.6.21. Android uses an APK; iOS uses AltStore Classic. You must supply your own supported game files and SoulSilver for follower artwork. No base ROMs are included. Download and setup: https://koloemulator.com/download/ Please include your device model, game and app version with bug reports. Expect bugs—this is an active beta. Disclosure: development and this post use generative AI assistance. Kolo is independent and unaffiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company. submitted by /u/Remote-Dog2499 [link] [comments]
