Fresh off the heels of her last afternoon appearance–a win in the July 18 GI Dunkin' Diana Stakes at Saratoga–Michael Dubb and Michael J. Caruso's Kathynmarissa (m, 5, American Pharoah-La Dalila {Chi}, by Milt's Overture) captured Thursday's GII Flower Bowl Stakes at Belmont Park. The 1 1/4-mile contest is a 'Win and You're In' for the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, which will be held Oct. 31 at Keeneland. The victory also marks trainer Chad Brown's ninth Flower Bowl win. With Sunlit Uplands (Ire) (Sands of Mali {Fr}) acting up in the starting gate, 68-1 Opulent Restraint (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) showed the way through :23.64 and :48.29 fractions as Kathynmarissa raced three wide midpack. The field strung out with Sunlit Uplands taking command into the stretch only for Kathynmarissa to find her best stride. She mowed down the late leader by about three-quarters of a length at the wire with Evershed (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) getting up for third. Kathynmarissa got the 10 furlongs in 2:00.58.Sales History: $200,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. O-Michael J. Caruso and Michael Dubb; B-Don Alberto Corporation (KY); T-Chad C. Brown; J-Jose L.
