I am teaching a language for adult learners. Most of my students usually pay before the lesson starts each month. However, I have had two students (they are different adults) who are working professional or business owner who is late for their payment. I have asked them to see if they received my invoice, and they said yes. Then, they said that they will pay soon after they received their paycheck. I wrote in the invoice with the due date but they didn't even ask if it is okay to pay after their paycheck, but they just said they will pay the fees after their paycheck, but they actually showed up in our lessons and had a lesson. It is a bit awkward to ask about the payment, so I met in the lesson and taught as usual. At the lesson, I gently asked and remind them to complete the payment before the lessons next time. Then, one of the students right after the lesson sent me the payment, but he said he will stop the lessons after next month because he will be busy. I am very confused if I did something wrong. After reminding him the payment and schedule, he decided to stop our lessons next month. I honestly don't really understand that people attend the lesson and pay late without any apologies. I even wrote the payment schedule in the invoice. They both have good jobs but is that common to pay late for adults in the US for tutoring and pay after they received their paycheck? I am very disappointed that the student will stop our lessons after next month, and I am questioning myself if it was better to wait a bit more before I reminded him.
