Danny Noppert has claimed his ADHD meant he was unable to block out a distracting noise during his World Grand Prix exit. The Dutchman was knocked out in the second round of the competition after falling to a surprise 3-0 defeat to Ryan Joyce in Leicester.Danny Noppert had been targeting a second final appearance of 2026 at the World Grand PrixGettyHaving reached the semi-finals of last year’s edition, eighth seed Noppert was bidding to go one better this time around. But ‘The Freeze’ looked far from comfortable on the stage against Joyce, appearing visibly frustrated throughout the contest. At the end of the opening set, he was seen in conversation with Kirk Bevins, the caller on duty, although it was not clear what they were discussing.Noppert has since revealed that he had been distracted by a strange cracking sound underneath the stage, that made it difficult for him to concentrate.Noppert explains distractionTaking to social media after his World Grand Prix exit, Noppert gave an explanation over why he was unable to play his best in the contest. He wrote on Instagram: “This is, unfortunately, one of the hardest parts of having ADHD.“I kept hearing Ryan walking back and forth, and there was this strange cracking sound coming from underneath the stage. “My mind just couldn’t block it out, and I simply couldn’t focus the way I needed to.“After my match, the PDC confirmed that something underneath the stage had actually come loose. So I wasn’t imagining it — there really was something going on.“But right now, none of that takes away how disappointed I am in myself. I know what I’m capable of, and I know I should have been able to perform better. That hurts.Joyce was unaffected by the same noise in his victory over NoppertGetty“Still, I have to take this for what it is: another lesson, another experience, and another reason to come back stronger.“It’s just heart-breaking that it had to happen this way.”While Noppert’s tournament came to an end in the second round, the victorious Joyce saw his impressive run continue as he now prepares to face Nathan Aspinall in the quarter-finals.The Geordie darts star knocked out six-time winner Michael van Gerwen in the first round on Monday, on the same day that Luke Littler suffered a shock exit against Luke Woodhouse.Noppert has previously opened up on how ADHD affects his everyday life, revealing he is a very different character away from the oche.He said in 2025: “I have ADHD, so when I’m at home I’m more hyper than when I’m at the darts. I want to go hard. I’m not as boring like everyone thinks.Noppert has not recorded a tournament win in 2026Getty“I have a busy life at home with the children and everything. But when I play darts, I’m a different person.“I always manage focused on what I want to do. I think the ADHD makes me stronger to get to the point where I want to be.”Despite a disappointing early exit at the World Grand Prix, Noppert has enjoyed a steady season otherwise. He reached back-to-back quarter-finals at the World Masters and UK Open earlier this year, as well as making the final of the German Darts Grand Prix in April, where he was beaten by Aspinall.
