The Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Sale will send a catalogued 293 yearlings through the ring at Fairplex in Pomona Wednesday for a single-day session beginning at 11 a.m. PT.“[The catalogue] came together really well,” said Mike Machowsky, Fasig-Tipton's California Representative. “Being out [on sales grounds] the last several days, I'm very happy with the quality of horses that [the consignors] have brought over. [Sales traffic] has been very good. We were very busy yesterday and again today. The breeders have brought in some solid horses here and we're anxious for the sale to begin.”The sale is buoyed this year by a new incentive with Fasig-Tipton, in partnership with the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, set to offer a $500,000 bonus awarded to the first sales graduate to win a Grade I race in the United States as a 2 or 3-year-old. The bonus applies only to yearlings offered in this year's California Fall Yearlings Sale. The bonus will be divided equally between the owner of the horse at the time of the Grade I win and the owner of the horse when it was offered at the sale Wednesday.“[Fasig-Tipton] and the CTBA kind of got together and figured we'd offer a little bit of a carrot out there with the bonus,” said Machowsky. “It should draw greater attention from buyers across the country to the auction, which consistently produces high-quality, well-raised yearlings. With benefits for sellers as well, we believe the bonus encouraged breeders to catalogue more of their quality yearlings this year–horses they may have retained or sold elsewhere in the past.”In addition to progeny by leading California-based sires such as Stay Thirsty and Grazen, the catalogue also features yearlings by notable Kentucky stallions including: Arabian Lion, Arcangelo, Corniche, Cyberknife, Epicenter, Golden Pal, Maxfield, McKinzie, Omaha Beach, Speaker's Corner, Taiba, Uncle Mo, Vekoma, Volatile and Yaupon, amongst others. The Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearling Sale produced both the male and female Cal-bred juvenile champions in the state last year in Ocean Bear (Bolt d'Oro) and Mohaven (Yaupon).“Hopefully somebody can find [a yearling] out of the sale and go win a Grade I,” Machowsky said. “There's plenty of opportunity.”The post Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Sale Set For Wednesday appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
