Kampala’s nightlife is set for an electronic music takeover on October 2 when DJ and entertainer The Last Gal stages her first solo headline rave at Guvnor Street. The event will bring together a mix of established and emerging DJs, selectors and MCs for a night centred on electronic music, with DJ Roja, Slick Stuart, Selector Jay, DJ Lito, DJ Jose, Fem DJ, DJ Mercy and Sir Aludah among those lined up to perform. They will be joined by Izzy the Business, Saint Trevor, Hanz MC and Morgan MC, who will keep the energy high through the night with live crowd engagement. For The Last Gal, whose real name is Kanyunyuzi Rachel Heyzo, the show represents a major milestone in a DJ career that began in 2022.She started her training at Gong Academy, where she was mentored by Derrick Files. Although she stepped away from DJing in 2023 to concentrate on her studies, her return to Uganda in February 2024 marked a fresh chapter in her career.Since returning, she has continued to develop her identity around electronic music, with house and garage forming a major part of her sound. Her choice of genre gives her a different lane in Kampala’s busy nightlife scene, where Afrobeats, dancehall and Amapiano remain popular with club audiences. The October 2 rave will therefore be more than a DJ set for The Last Gal. It will give her a platform to present her sound on a larger scale and introduce audiences to the musical direction she has been developing over the past few years. The diverse line-up is also expected to add variety to the night. DJ Roja and Slick Stuart bring years of experience in Uganda’s mainstream entertainment industry, while the other selectors and DJs will contribute their own styles to the electronic-focused event.Beyond the music, the organisers are promising a full entertainment experience featuring lighting, audiovisual production and performances designed to give the rave a festival-style atmosphere. For The Last Gal, the event marks a move from building her name behind the decks to taking full ownership of a night dedicated to her sound. After starting out as a trainee DJ in 2022, taking a break for her studies and returning to the scene in 2024, she will now headline her own show for the first time on October 2.atiluknathan@gmail.comThe post The Last Gal set to headline first solo rave at Guvnor appeared first on The Observer Media Ltd.
