T Kraft Noses Out Crazy Mason In ‘WAYI’ Vosburgh

Wait 5 sec.

It came down to the judges but T Kraft (Connect) is Breeders' Cup bound after denying an oncoming Crazy Mason (Coal Front) in Thursday's GIII Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park, a 'Win and You're In' race for the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint Oct. 31 at Keeneland. The rail-drawn 5-1 shot, exiting a narrow dead-heat for second in last month's GI Forego Stakes, burst from the gates and set out to lead but was outsprinting in the opening furlongs by both El Grande O (Take Charge Indy) and his fellow Forego deadheater Senior Officer (Into Mischief). Not to be denied, T Kraft came through along the fence to stick a head back in front headed into the far turn to lead narrowly with El Grande O now pressing him right off his flank in second as the rest of the field worked to keep pace.Still on the lead as jockey Junior Alvarado was motionless at the top of the lane, the field began to bunch up with Crazy Mason launching a grandstand rally from the clouds as T Kraft looked to put away El Grande O inside the final sixteenth. In a thrilling photo finish, the pair hit the wire together with the judges awarding T Kraft his first graded stakes win and his slot in the gate at the Breeders' Cup.“He ran well and got away good and Junior [Alvarado] gave him a good ride,” Mott said. “The horse we thought was the speed horse [Contrary Thinking] got away poorly and Junior knew what to do after that. He's improving. We're pleased with his progress and now we'll have to talk. It's a 'Win and You're In' and Lee [Einsidler, of LRE Racing] will probably want to go to the Breeders' Cup.”“If he's doing good, the Breeders' Cup is paying, so I'm sure we'll have to get a hotel room and a flight to Lexington and root for T Kraft,” added winning owner Lee Einsidler. “He's improving every race–it comes up quick and six [furlongs] is a little sharp, but he certainly belongs. He showed that today.”Pedigree Note:T Kraft, the ninth graded stakes winner for Connect, will have the rare opportunity to put a second GI Breeders' Cup Sprint winner under his dam as his half-brother, Straight No Chaser (Speightster) won the race, along with the Eclipse Award, in 2024. Margarita Friday has a trio of stakes winners to her credit now, along with her daughter, Hangover Saturday (Pomeroy). The mare's yearling, a colt by Authentic, brought $175,000 from Hoppel last month at Keeneland September and she produced a Gun Runner colt earlier this year before visiting Munnings for 2027.Thursday, BelmontVOSBURGH S.-GIII, $250,000, Belmont, 10-1, 3yo/up, 7f, 1:22.78, ft.1–T KRAFT, 126, c, 4, by Connect            1st Dam: Margarita Friday, by Johannesburg            2nd Dam: Smile Maker, by Capote            3rd Dam: Desireux, by Fappiano1ST GRADED STAKES WIN.
