Last year's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Daryz (Sea The Stars) has been handed the highly favourable draw in stall five as he faces 15 rivals in Sunday's feature at ParisLongchamp, for which all stood their ground at the final declaration stage on Thursday morning. After the draw ceremony staged this evening, connections of the Aga Khan Stud behemoth were able to celebrate the first piece of the jigsaw fitting into place while their other runner, the Prix Niel winner Varandir (Zarak), also had luck on his side drawn next door in four. While all was rosy for Francis Graffard, Aidan O'Brien was handed a harsh blow by the draw gods with the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Prix de Diane heroine Diamond Necklace (St Mark's Basilica) widest of all in 16 and the Irish Derby winner Benvenuto Cellini (Frankel) in stall one which was last successful courtesy of Zarkava in 2008. For once, the stable's modus operandi to delay declaring jockeys was fully justified with Ryan Moore siding with Benvenuto Cellini leaving Christophe Soumillon to navigate the car-park draw on the filly. Last year's runner-up Minnie Hauk (Frankel) and William Buick is in 10, outside of the comfort zone for recent winners who tend to come from between stalls two and seven.Along with Daryz, two other of the big favourites to fare favourably with low numbers are the Joseph O'Brien-trained Oaks heroine Thundering On (Frankel) in three and Juddmonte's King George heroine Kalpana (Study Of Man), who has stall six. John and Thady Gosden are set to rely on George Strawbridge's Prix Vermeille winner Friendly Soul (Kingman), who was also the right side of the fence in stall seven.George Waud's Grand Prix de Paris winner Maltese Cross (Sea The Stars) took a minor blow when handed stall 11, while Victorious Forever's Coronation Cup winner Bay City Roller (New Bay) has it to do from 15 on ground that is likely too quick. Japan's Arc pain looks set to linger on, with the country's outsiders Admire Terra (Ray De Oro) and Meisho Tabaru (Gold Ship) in 12 and 13 respectively. Their bid to provide an upset for the nation's landmark first win already looked slim before stalls were allotted.Runners, draw and riders:Daryz (5) Mickael BarzalonaSaddadd (9) Ray DawsonChestnut Rocket (2) Marvin GrandinAdmire Terra (12) Cristian DemuroMeisho Tabaru (13) Yutaka TakeArrow Eagle (14) Ioritz MendizabalBay City Roller (15) Oisin MurphyMinnie Hauk (10) William BuickKalpana (6) Colin KeaneFriendly Soul (7) James DoyleVarandir (4) Clement LecoeuvreBenvenuto Cellini (1) Ryan MooreBright Light (8) Benjamin MarieMaltese Cross (11) Tom MarquandThundering On (3) Pierre-Charles BoudotDiamond Necklace (16) Christophe SoumillonThe post Ideal Draw For Daryz’s Arc Defence, Diamond Necklace Widest appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
