The filly ran off the screen to win by 10 1/2 lengths when she debuted for trainer George Weaver at Horseshoe Indianapolis Sept. 14. Her dam is SW & MGISP Dawn the Destroyer (Speightstown).Joe Dugan of Cincinnati, Ohio–who co-owns the juvenile with John Brunetti, Black Type Thoroughbreds, Swinbank Stables, Steve Adkisson and Andrew Atkinson–named Chickies Perch in honor of his late mother.“My mom and her brothers–my uncles–had a huge part in why I love this sport,” Dugan told the TDN. “In the late '70s we spent a lot of time at River Downs. She'd pick up a bucket of chicken, and us kids would hang on the apron all day. Later on, Mom and I bet all the big races together and had watch parties.“Her nickname was Chickie,” he said. “My Dad called her Chick and all my cousins called her Aunt Chickie. She was a very kind and funny person with an aggressive, tough edge. She always sat at our little kitchen table–cigarettes, ashtray, a can of beer and the wall phone right next to her. That was her chair. If you wanted to talk, you sat at that table. She was on the phone a lot with her sisters. Eventually we started calling that chair her perch.Today was her debutChickies Perch!Named for Mom's chair in the kitchen — cigarettes, beer, and the phone on the wall; Her Perch!! That was the original Chickies Perch.Today our beautiful 2-year-old filly carried that same spirit and sprinted her way to a huge win in her… pic.twitter.com/COP3YIe0S7— Joe Dugan (@joehorses284) September 14, 2026“I knew it was risky to put that much sentimental value on a horse that was still unproven,” Dugan added. “But this baby had my eye from the day we bought her. Maybe it was the pedigree. Maybe it was a hunch. I don't know. What I do know is my family was there when she broke her maiden–grandkids and great-grandkids included. When she broke away in a romp, we all got very emotional. We have high hopes for her, but that day alone made it worth it. We can't wait to see her run again Friday. We hope she keeps making herself relevant as she heads toward her 3-year-old year.” TJCIS PPS 7th-BEL, $100K, Msw, 3yo/up, 6f, 4:31 p.m. ET.Godolphin homebred Zimmer (Maclean's Music) makes his first start under the care of Michael Stidham.
