A bride from Los Angeles said her wedding venue changed her ceremony backdrop from a plain white wall to a colorful mural featuring astronauts and sailboats, without informing her beforehand. The bride, who posts on TikTok as Mariah (@murrcraig), shared the claims in a video that has gained more than 396,100 views and over 35,400 likes. Mariah said in her video that the venue had originally shown her a backdrop that was “timeless, elegant, all white.” She said the space was later changed to a mural showing sailboats, a golden astronaut figure, and the word “GRAVITY” painted on a curved wall. According to Mariah, she was not notified of the change through any official channel. “No email, no phone call, no heads up,” she said in the video. She said she only found out after another bride posted a warning in a bridal Facebook group. Other brides reportedly received similar warnings about the same venue change Mariah said in her video that the space, which she referred to as a “premium venue,” previously featured a wooden pergola, white flowers, clear chairs, and a white aisle runner. I was expecting a neutral wall to match my decor and unfortunately that’s not an option now.” Mariah said that after seeing the post, she looked through the comments and found that she “was one of many upset brides.” Some TikTok viewers reacted with similar disbelief, with one writing, “That’s diabolical. Can you imagine a bride showing up on her wedding day and not knowing about this change.” Mariah said in the video that brides who had heard back from the venue were reportedly told there would be no refund and no compensation. She said they were also told that they could pay to drape the mural themselves if they did not want it visible. Venue disputes are sadly now a thing of the present as it has other brides to allege sabotage as well, like a disabled bride who spent time and money ensuring accessibility. A comment shown in the video, which Mariah attributed to another bride’s wedding planner, read, “Our planner from the resort basically said that management said they will not be refunding, offering an equal venue change, or literally anything. Basically said you can pay to have draping or decor to cover it.” One viewer argued the situation went beyond a simple design dispute, commenting, “You rented a specific space and are not being provided with that space. They sold you something that they don’t have so that’s fraud.” Mariah also highlighted a comment she said came from a resort representative. “She essentially said just be happy we are still giving you the private venue. They are not refunding anything and not acknowledging a breach of contract,” the comment read, according to the screenshot shown in the video. Mariah said the premium fee for the space still applied despite the change. “Oh, and the premium fee still applies because astronauts and sailboats are premium,” she said. A comment shown in the video echoed her frustration, reading, “The ‘premium venue’ fee still applies even though this looks cheap and tra*hy.” Another TikTok viewer offered a similar take on the mural itself, writing, “I could maybe understand if it was a solid color but an entire mural with different colors and objects is wild.” As of posting the video, Mariah said it had been “day 7 or 8” since she last heard from the on-site wedding sales advisor. She said her wedding planners had suggested she start a petition and gather signatures and wedding IDs from other affected brides. Many brides have faced even more drastic outcomes, like one who had to cancel her entire dream wedding because of a venue location. Some viewers pointed to a possible path forward for Mariah and other affected brides. One commenter suggested, “Chargeback for false advertising,” while another wrote, “If this is Gravity Terrace TRS Coral they are ran by Palladium hotel group. Id go straight to the corporate route and contact them directly.” A commenter who identified themselves as working in the events industry added, “As a venue director this is insane!!!!!” Mariah said she hoped to post a follow-up video letting viewers know if the venue “made it right.” She ended the video by asking other brides what they would do in her situation. The venue in question has not publicly commented on this matter either.
