‘That’s wild’: A Fourth of July ended with a firework going through a woman’s face, but all she could worry about was the cute boy’s shirt

Wait 5 sec.

For one TikToker, the fireworks from this last 4th of July sent her to the emergency room. Angela (ang_jb) recently shared on TikTok the immediate, shock-filled aftermath of a firework accident. The post, which has garnered over 8.9 million views, shows her date cleaning Angela’s face as she tried to process what happened. Despite the obvious injury and bleeding, she could only focus her energy on her date’s clothing rather than her own condition. In the video, Angela can be heard cursing in a daze as she looked at the video on her camera. At one point, she says, “Oh, you’re ruining your shirt.” As her date tries to clean around the wound, she says in a daze, “That’s wild.” He asks, “What is it?” Angela replies, “It kinda hurts.” As her date realizes with horror that the firework might be in her face, he tells her, “We’re going to the f—ing hospital, I kid you not. I swear to God.”  The on-screen text of the post perfectly summarizes the bizarre dynamic: “pov” a firework went thru ur face, but you’re more worried abt the cute guy not ruining his shirt.” Let me tell you, while she was too shocked to break down, TikTok was freaking out for her. One user commented, “HOW WERE YOU CALM WITH A LITERAL HOLE IN UR FACE??” Another added, ““It kinda hurts” WDYM KINDA??”  She wanted to go home; her date refused Many of the other TikTokers noticed, as the date obviously did, that she was in shock. As one user wrote, “you can hear the shock in your voice preventing you from processing the pain properly.” Many were also impressed by her date’s handling of the crisis. One person stated, “this is SO sweet, and he kept calm most men def would not do the same.” After her stint in the hospital, Angela finally came back with details and an explanation in a follow-up post. She explained that she and her date were having a firework date night when the accident occurred. “He bought so many beautiful fireworks, and the one that hit me happened to be the very last one of the night, not just because it hit me. It was our very last one,” she said.  @ang_jb this was surely not on the “how to impress your crush” list Update: the firework hitting me was a freak accident, just a faulty firework. It went through my deep tissue and might’ve damaged an important nerve/muscle. I was driven to the er right away (by the cute boy ‍) where I cat a CT scan, then later on surgery and stitches. I’m going back in a few days for a follow up appointment at the doctors where they’ll check how I’m healing and also evaluate the muscle & nerve that might’ve been effected, since by then the swelling should have gone down a lot by then. I am okay I’m very swollen and not feeling quite like myself, but the cute boy () has been a huge help with taking care of me and reassuring me that I’ll be back to normal soon. I’ve been seeing him for a good little while, but we’re not dating so pls DONT SCARE HIM IN THE COMMENTS IM WORKING ON IT OKAY ♬ original sound – ang_jb “He ended up rushing me to the ER,” she said. “I tried to convince him to stop by my apartment first and see if it was bad enough to go to the hospital. Thankfully, he convinced me out of it because I ended up needing surgery.” She noted that the process was grueling. It involved a CT scan at one hospital, a five-hour wait, a transfer to another facility, and another 10-hour wait before surgery. The injury itself was severe. Angela noted, “It didn’t blow all the way through my face. You know, it was, um, honestly probably as clean as it could have been. It blew into my face instead of blowing things out of my face, which was great.” There were complications, too.  “There was a lot of gunpowder, hot gunpowder in my face and fragments.” She also admitted that as a result of the swelling, the fragments or the hot gunpowder, “one of my nerves is a little either stunned or shattered.” Around the same time, she uploaded the unfiltered cut of her first video. Watch it with caution since her wounds are more visible in that video.  @ ♬ – This incident highlights the broader dangers associated with fireworks, a concern echoed by medical professionals. A recent CBS report noted that approximately 13,000 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries in 2025.  Dr. Dan Ivankovich, an orthopedic trauma and spine surgeon, reportedly emphasized the severity of these incidents, stating, “You’d be shocked how many people lose fingers, devitalize their hand, have severe burns that end up in partial hand and finger amputations. These are not normal traumas — they’re explosive.” Unfortunately, this year, a 13-year-old in Arkansas was holding a firework in his hand when it blew up and took his life.  Per CBS, experts advise that it is best to leave these displays to the professionals to avoid such life-altering accidents. After all, in a scary situation, a firework mortar hit a Delta flight as it was descending into Chicago.  @ ♬ – For now, Angela is focusing on her recovery. She is scheduled for a follow-up to check on the nerve damage and is trying to maintain a positive outlook. She also noted that she wasn’t interested in plastic surgery. However, she noted that she was keeping that option open in case any scarring did bother her.  For those curious, Angela also confirmed that the cute boy who got her through the ordeal was now her boyfriend. That was a little detail that her followers probably loved the most.
