Kollam District Development Committee in Kerala urges speedy execution of projects - The HinduUpdated - July 26, 2026 08:26 pm IST - KOLLAMKollam District Development Committee (DDC) has called for the swift execution of various development projects by efficiently utilizing all available financial resources.Chairing the meeting, District Collector Annie Jula Thomas directed officials to ensure that ongoing initiatives are completed seamlessly and strictly within their designated timelines.Highlighting the need for timely public works, it was announced that the District Panchayat will allocate funds for school repairs, provided the beneficiary schools submit their detailed work estimates promptly.Major decisions were also rolled out to bolster health infrastructure across the district. Steps will be taken to clear the accumulated soil from the Kollam District Hospital premises, acquire additional land for the Kadakkal Taluk Hospital, and recruit temporary doctors at the Karunagappally Taluk Hospital.Furthermore, multi-departmental coordination will be strengthened to drive the ongoing expansion and operational efficiency of the Parippally Government Medical College.In transport and infrastructure, authorities were instructed to expedite land acquisition for the Kollam Greenfield National Highway project starting at Kadampattukonam.The Geology Department was instructed to complete land-related verifications on time, while the Irrigation Department was directed to carry out maintenance on the Kallada Irrigation Project’s dams and check dams.To ease commuter hardship, immediate measures were demanded to clear traffic snarls on the Mevaram-Kollam highway, address complaints regarding KSRTC night buses skipping service roads along the Kottiyam-Chathannur stretch, and arrange temporary passage for commuters during the Polayathode railway overbridge construction.While a new KSRTC bus service connecting Kottarakkara and the Parippally Medical College will be launched soon, street dog shelter initiatives are set to expand to all levels with local body support.At the meeting the DDC was informed that 94 medical camps and 344 awareness sessions have been successfully conducted across the district to curb the spread of infectious diseases.
