Maltese comedian James Ryder is urging the public to support Carers for Stray and Abandoned Felines (CSAF) after the cat shelter was left without electricity for around 20 hours, putting hundreds of cats, including vulnerable animals recovering from surgery, at serious risk.In a video shared on social media, Ryder said he wanted to use his platform to help the shelter after learning about the ordeal.“I absolutely love cats and I love to help out shelters when I can,” he said, explaining that the prolonged outage left one of Malta’s largest cat shelters in a critical situation.CSAF, which cares for around 300 to 400 cats, had earlier warned that its temperature-controlled medical rooms had become dangerously hot after the power failed. The organisation said the rooms house cats recovering from surgery, illness and other vulnerable animals, warning that without electricity they could become “a death sentence” for those inside.Thankfully, power was restored later that night, but Ryder warned the problem is far from over.“We’re barely out of July, let alone the summer,” he said. “So this is going to happen again. And if not this summer, 100% next summer.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)After speaking to people running the shelter, Ryder said CSAF’s priority is purchasing a 10,000-watt generator to ensure it can continue operating safely during future outages.“I know it’s very unlikely that we’re going to get all that,” he said. “But honestly, every penny we can send them is a penny that they can save from buying the generator and give straight back to the cats.”Ryder said he is personally collecting donations through his Revolut account to pass on to the shelter, encouraging people to contribute whatever they can.“You don’t even have to like cats,” he added. “There isn’t an animal alive that deserves to die out like that. Honestly, even if you just have 10 cents to send on, that’ll still go a very long way.”CSAF’s appeal came after another wave of widespread power cuts affected thousands of people across Malta during the ongoing heatwave, with numerous localities experiencing lengthy outages. The shelter had appealed for either a generator or urgent assistance to protect the animals in its care before electricity was restored.Donations can be sent on revolut on 99012881Share to raise awareness!Video credits to @jamesrydercomedy•
