I listed an old dining table for free because I was moving and needed it gone by Sunday. It was solid wood, still sturdy, but had a few scratches and one water mark near the edge. I included clear photos, measurements, and wrote “pickup only, second floor, no elevator” in the first line. Within ten minutes a woman messaged saying she desperately needed it because her family had been eating on the couch. I told her it was available and asked when she could collect it. She said she didnt have a car and asked whether I could deliver it about forty minutes away. I explained that I was packing all weekend and didn’t have a vehicle large enough anyway. She replied that I could rent a van because “you’re the one trying to get rid of it.” I almost stopped answering there, but she then said her brother might pick it up if I could take the legs off first. That seemed reasonable, so I agreed. Then she asked whether the four chairs in one of the photos were included. They weren’t. She said a table without chairs was “not very useful” and asked if I could give her two chairs from my new set instead. The next morning her brother arrived in a small hatchback with no tools, blankets, or rope. I had already removed the legs and carried everything downstairs. He looked at the tabletop and said it wouldnt fit, then called his sister on speaker. She asked if I could keep it for another week while they found a bigger car. I said no because I was handing over the apartment on Monday. She suggested I leave it in the building hallway and said they would collect it “eventually.” My landlord was already annoyed about boxes near the stairs, so that was not happening. Her brother left, and twenty minutes later she messaged asking if I could at least send her the removable legs because she might “find another top somewhere.” I told her I was giving the complete table to the next person who could actually collect it. She called me selfish and said I had wasted her brother’s fuel. The second person arrived that afternoon with a truck, brought straps, thanked me, and had the whole thing loaded in about five minutes. The first woman messaged again that evening asking whether I still had the chairs and if I could hold them until next month. I didnt reply. submitted by /u/Duneveil_7 [link] [comments]
