This week, Walt Disney World Resort quietly made a change that sealed the future of live outdoor entertainment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Here’s everything we know about the latest development at the fourth Central Florida Disney park.New Installation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme ParkCredit: DisneyOn July 27, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had installed a dozen umbrellas on benches inside the Discovery River amphitheater in the Asia area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The outlet shared a photo of the blue shade structures on social media:The dozen umbrellas are permanently installed in many of the wooden benches in the Discovery River amphitheater, closest to the Theater in the Wild, home to Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!. As of right now, Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t installed similar umbrellas in the section of the waterfront arena closer to the Expedition Everest roller coaster. These permanent umbrellas suggest that Walt Disney World Resort doesn’t plan to use this sprawling outdoor arena for live entertainment anytime soon, as they would block the view of any show on the water. Since KiteTails ended in 2022, Walt Disney World Resort has not used the Discovery River amphitheater for a show. The area is currently open to Disney Park guests for sitting and relaxing during the day.Credit: DisneyIn the late 2010s, Walt Disney World Resort used the Discovery River amphitheater for the Rivers of Light nighttime spectacular. In 2019, Disney reimagined the show as Rivers of Light: We Are One, but that version was retired during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last few years, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has not stayed open late enough to host a nighttime spectacular.Have you noticed any other changes around Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park?
