Forest watcher Murukesan at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve in Kerala wins NTCA award - The HinduPublished - July 27, 2026 08:00 pm IST - PALAKKADMurukesan N.Murukesan N., a forest watcher and naturalist at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, has won this year’s National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) award of excellence for tiger conservation.Currently working in the Sungam range, Murukesan has been selected for the prestigious national award in recognition of his contributions to tiger conservation, wildlife interpretation, biodiversity education and ecotourism.He will receive the award from Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi on July 29, the World Tiger Day. Apart from the national recognition, the award carries a cash prize too.A member of the Malasar tribal community from Sungam hamlet in Parambikulam, Murukesan, 44, has dedicated the past 25 years to conservation in Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.Despite formal education up to Class IX, Murukesan has built a reputation as a naturalist through his field knowledge and contributions to conservation awareness.Over the years, he has guided thousands of visitors, interpreted the reserve’s biodiversity, promoted responsible ecotourism and supported wildlife education. His work has earned recognition from visitors, researchers and forest officials.The NTCA award is among the country’s highest honours for service in tiger reserves.
