World Applied Anthropology Congress concludes at ICRISAT - The HinduPublished - July 27, 2026 08:30 pm IST - HYDERABADThe three-day World Applied Anthropology Congress 2026 organised by the Anthropological Association for Humankind (AAfH), concluded at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), here on Saturday.The congress brought together around 140 participants, including nearly 30 international delegates. The event was inaugurated by Government Whip and Nakrekal legislator Vemula Veeresam, who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing global challenges.Held under the theme, ‘Interwoven Worlds: Anthropological Engagement with the Global and Local Challenges of Climate Change and Migration,’ the congress featured keynote lectures, panel discussions, thematic sessions, research presentations and interactive dialogues.Scholars and experts from over 60 universities and research institutions, including Texas A&M University, the University of Kansas, the University of Amsterdam, Jawaharlal Nehru University, the University of Hyderabad, IITs and the Indian Statistical Institute, participated alongside representatives of civil society organisations and government departments.Prominent participants included IPCC Chair Jim Skea, Abhijit Guha, former NASA scientist Rama Krishna Nemani, Andaman and Nicobar Administration Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and several senior academics, and policymakers.A key outcome of the congress was the adoption of the Hyderabad Declaration on Climate Change and Migration, which calls for people-centred, inclusive and evidence-based approaches to climate adaptation and migration governance.AAfH president V.
