Spoilers ahead for the most recent episode of HOTD "Faceless Men"House of the Dragon Season 3 has been a doozy so far, with plenty of twists, turns, and wild character deaths. Episode 6 was no exception in this regard, with fans watching as the Dance of Dragons continues on HBO (and streaming with a HBO Max subscription). That episode, titled "Faceless Man" opened with Fabien Frankel's Criston Cole being unceremoniously killed off, and fans are definitely sounding off about this online. While fans keep up with which Dragon belongs to who on HOTD, Season 3 has seen a ton of huge characters die in the Targaryen civil war. Cole has seemingly been toast for a few episodes, but he finally died after the Riverfolk played dead and ambushed what was left of his forces... and he was filled with arrows by newcomer Alysanne Blackwood. Twitter exploded as a result of this plot twist, with folks sharing their thoughts about the way he went out. One fan wasn't fond of his ending, posting: They spent two seasons building Criston into one of the central figures of the Dance, only for him to be taken out by the Blackwoods like an unnamed foot soldier. Am I the only one who thinks he deserved a better-written death?Of course, this wasn't the only sentiment online. Fans have been hating on Cole for a while now, thanks to his betrayal of Rhaenyra, bullying her young sons (RIP), and for being a big reason why the Dance of the Dragons began in the first place. As such, there are plenty who loved the way he was finally killed in the opening moments of the most recent episode. One such tweet reads: FINALLY CRISTON COLE DIES. 😭So ironic, right? After being the guy who helped spark the Dance of the Dragons and made the war even worse, he finally gets taken out by an arrow from Alysanne “Black Aly” Blackwood. He doesn't even get the honorable duel he asked for hahaCole's Season 3 journey has been a real fall from grace, and he wasn't even given the dignity of a duel in his final moments. It's been interesting seeing how the character fell, with the former King's Guard member being jaded and accepting death since Season 2's Battle of Rook's Rest. Another fan used a well-known meme to share their excitement about Cole finally getting his comeuppance. Check it out below: CRISTON COLE IS OFFICIALLY DEAD #HOTD #demdragons #houseofthedragon pic.twitter.com/4b9ZHE8fWoJuly 27, 2026That does seem to be the reaction for plenty of House of the Dragon fans out there. While Cole was likable enough in the beginning, his popularity dropped thanks to his hypocrisy regarding Rhaenyra and Alicent. He had a moral superiority and called Emma D'Arcy's character a whore, despite breaking his King's Guard vow to have an affair with Alicent. The latter was referenced in his final moments, where he's seen holding Alicent's handkerchief shortly before being killed. A fan pointed this out by tweeting: criston cole kinda went out sad ngl that one sided feeling of a handkerchief + arrow. oh well.Points were made. Despite what a flawed character Cole was, his death did end up being a tragic one. He's just another anonymous soldier being killed off in the Dance of Dragons, and he perished with Alicent on longer giving him the time of day. Fans were shook by Cole dying so early into the latest episode, and the fact that he was murdered by a relatively unknown character named Alysanne Blackwood. As another fan tweeted:The fact that Criston Cole got taken out by an unknown female character is funnyI should be interesting to see what comes next for Alysanne Blackwood. We haven't heard her say any lines just yet, but she was given center stage as she shot Cole with three arrows, killing him before the rest of his soldiers were taken out by the Rivermen. Only time will tell how Criston Cole's death reverberates throughout the rest of Season 3. I'm eager to see how both Alicent and Rhaenyra react to the news. Will they be affected or will he just be the latest tragic death to come from the Dance? After all, those two women lost their father and son respectively this season.New episodes of House of the Dragon air Sundays as part of the 2026 TV schedule. There are only two episodes left in Season 3, so the stakes have never been higher.
