The Labour Party has suspended one of its local councillors after the councillor was allegedly involved in an incident with a LESA enforcement officer. In a statement issued today, the party confirmed that it had taken the decision with immediate effect as a precautionary measure, preventing the councillor from representing the Labour Party in any of its structures, including the Local Council. While the PL did not identify the individual, informed sources said the case involves a Qormi councillor and stems from an incident that allegedly took place in Valletta on Sunday. The party stressed that the councillor is presumed innocent, but said it believes public trust in its representatives must be protected while the case is being investigated.“While stressing that the individual remains presumed innocent, the Labour Party believes that public trust in the work being done by its representatives should be safeguarded,” the statement read. The PL also said it is offering its full support to law enforcement authorities and will continue monitoring the case, adding that it will take any further decisions deemed necessary in light of future developments. What do you make of this decision?•
