Sponsored by Gallagher and hosted by Alice Plunkett, the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) celebrated the 11th edition of its annual National Hunt Breeders' Awards at Poulton Hill Vineyard on Tuesday evening, held as part of the TBA's new NH Summer Party. The event brought together more than 100 guests from across the National Hunt breeding community to celebrate the successes of the 2025-26 National Hunt season, with Simon Sweeting featuring among the headline winners as he received the Queen Mother's Silver Salver (National Hunt Special Achievement Award), the highest honour bestowed by the TBA's NH Committee.Sweeting, who previously worked for the likes of Colin Hayes, Timmy Hyde, Henry Cecil, Bobby Frankel and Luca Cumani, took over the lease at Overbury Stud in 2000. Later that year, it was announced that Kayf Tara would take up residence at the stud, with the dual Gold Cup-winning son of Sadler's Wells going on to have a profound impact on British National Hunt breeding. More recently, Golden Horn has been the star attraction on the Overbury roster, the sire of Champion Hurdle heroine Golden Ace and Gold Cup winner Trawlerman.Sweeting, a former chair of the British EBF and formerly a director at Warwick Racecourse, has also enjoyed notable success as a breeder. In 2025, he was represented by the European champion two-year-old Gewan, whom Sweeting co-bred with the Wyatt family's Dukes Stud, while his notable runners over jumps include the multiple top-level winner Thyme Hill.TBA NH Committee chairman Simon Cox said, “Simon Sweeting is a most deserving recipient of the Queen Mother's Silver Salver. A friend to all and highly respected, Simon is duly recognised by the NH Committee for his achievements as a breeder, stallion manager along with his many contributions to the wider industry – he is a great asset to National Hunt breeding and racing.”The other award winners were as follows:Dudgeon Cup (Broodmare of the Year), sponsored by Eric Gillie Ltd – Miss Bailly (Will Kinsey)Midnight Legend Trophy for Leading Hurdler – The New Lion (Chugg Family)Peel Bloodstock Trophy for Leading Chaser – Edwardstone (Abrey & Thurtle families)Yorton Trophy for Leading Mares' Chaser – Jasmine Bliss (Caroline George)Overbury Stud Trophy for Leading Mares' Hurdler – Charisma Cat (Upton Viva Stud)Shade Oak Stud Trophy for Leading Novice Hurdler – Bossman Jack (Richard & Lizzie Kelvin-Hughes)Batsford Stud Trophy for Leading Novice Chaser – Romeo Coolio (Will Kinsey)Mickley Stud Trophy for Leading NHF Performer – Lady Hope (David Redvers)Whitbread Silver Salver (Leading British-based stallion, by earnings in GB & Ire) – Passing GlanceHorse & Hound Cup (Leading British-based stallion, by individual chase winners in GB & Ire) – Passing GlanceThe post Queen Mother’s Silver Salver Success for Simon Sweeting appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
