Abner Aquilina has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined €4,000 after being found guilty of assaulting a psychiatrist at Mount Carmel Hospital, TVM News reported.The assault took place on 1st September 2022, when the psychiatrist was leaving a patient’s room after a consultation. According to the court, Aquilina struck the doctor from behind, causing him to fall to the ground before he was restrained by a police officer on duty.The psychiatrist was later treated at Mater Dei Hospital.Police investigating the incident also reviewed CCTV footage, which captured the assault and Aquilina being restrained before he was locked inside a room.After his arrest, Aquilina refused to cooperate with investigators, insulting police officers and prison officials during questioning.In addition to the prison sentence and fine, the court issued a three-year restraining order protecting the psychiatrist.Aquilina, 22, is separately awaiting trial over the murder of Paulina Dembska, the 29-year-old Polish woman who was killed in Sliema in January 2022.In a separate case, Aquilina was found not guilty of allegedly assaulting another patient at Mount Carmel after the court found the prosecution had charged him with the wrong date, meaning the offence as charged could not be proven.•
