To be fair, old iPhones are pretty useless, and by design as well. Until last fall I had an iPhone 11, that I only had basic apps (no 3rd party apps, videos, music and very few photos) on because between iOS and System data files the storage was full, even after clean reinstall. I fully believe that keeping OS huge in size is by design, so they can keep selling you larger and larger hard drives with each update. Then it just stopped receiving calls and texts, not leaving me any choice but to go buy newer phone. Of course, they can get an Android phone, but transferring data to Android from iPhone is a pain - most likely also by design - not sure about now, but I believe transferring texts wasn’t possible.
