New American Dad Video Has Me Giggling Over RoboCop, Rocky Horror And Steve & Stan's Bathroom Gags

Wait 5 sec.

American Dad returned to Fox earlier this year, wasting no time before delivering a Top 5 all-time hilariously disgusting joke, and fans can look forward to several more years (at least) of the Smith family’s primetime shenanigans. We don’t exactly know when new episodes will return to close out Season 20, nor whether they’ll be back on the 2026 TV schedule at all, but Fox unveiled a bunch of new footage that at least helps to soothe the rampant need for Steve to sing about anything and everything. American Dad was among several of Fox’s animated faves to get the spotlight for San Diego Comic-Con, where fans were first treated to the new preview video. It’s definitely not a proper trailer, as it includes lengthier sequences and some unfinished animation, but it certainly nails the assignment of making me the eagerest beaver imaginable. (Incidentally, The Eagerest Beaver is my unshoed-feet-gaze band with Roger.) You can’t, because it was. And now let’s highlight some of the moments that made me laugh the hardest, since I’m sure I’m not alone. (Image credit: Fox)All Hail RogoCop! All joking aside, Roger looks almost too spiffy with his oblong head held within a RoboCop helmet. The visor, combined with his pursed-lip lack of expression, really works for whatever reason. Not that "really works" is an apt description for Roger's ability to actually shoot anything of note while churning out all those bullets. (It says something about Paul Verhoeven's OG film that Roger's endless gunfire wasn't even overkill as a parody.) He wasn't even supposed to be in a normal living room in the first place, though, as he was targeting a drug den. That's our Roger! (Somebody get him into Amazon MGM’s upcoming TV reboot, pretty please.)(Image credit: Fox)The Smith Family In Rocky Horror Picture Show CosplayWhile it's not exactly clear what the overarching plot for this episode will be, it's made clear that the fam was in the midst of watching midnight screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show until Stan screwed it up somehow. They didn't even get to do the Time Warp, people!I really hope we get to see everyone's full-body looks, too. Francine's Magenta and Klaus' Frank-N-Further are both excellent looks, and we do get to see most of Haley's Janet. But I needs way more of Steve's Riff Raff and Jeff's Brad. (Image credit: Fox)Steve Apparently Shares Bathroom Habits With Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry DavidYou might not think a bathroom would be the best place to set up for a podcast recording, with one of Klaus' boys settled into the shower with his soundboard, but the acoustics are pretty good. But the bizarro setting isn't quite as funny to me as Steve saying he only went in there to pee. As a Curb Your Enthusiasm fan, my brain immediately went to the Season 4 episode where Larry David (the character) expressed and defended his choice to sit on the toilet while urinating. And here I thought wearing glasses was the only thing that the HBO character had in common with ol' Steve Smith. (Image credit: Fox)The last fun highlight I'll address is an upcoming episode in which Stan gets to have a bathroom-set throwdown...with himself! Who better to properly take down the Smith family patriarch than another version of the Smith family patriarch? Nobody, that's who. I can't help but feel like this storyline will conclude with both versions of Stan (and maybe more) choosing to work together, since he'd be unable to avoid embracing what are ostensibly his own ideas. I'm almost shocked we didn't get a jokey moment where each version admired the other's nude body. That's our Stan! One of relatively few TV shows that have lasted longer than 250 eps, American Dad is gearing up to deliver its landmark 400th episode in 2027. Considering Ep. 300 concluded the golden turd storyline, the sky is the limit for where it’ll go next. (Another Sinbad adventure, maybe?) In the meantime, all episodes of American Dad can be streamed in full via Hulu subscription and/or Disney+ subscription.
