Jon Gruden’s wish has been answered as he is set to be a bigger presence during the 2026 NFL season.Just days after announcing he wishes to return to the booth after a nine-year hiatus, Gruden has been handed the opportunity to do just that.Gruden’s wish has been fulfilledGettyGruden and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber will be calling the team’s pre-season home game against the Kansas City Chiefs on August 22.As of now, Gruden has only been confirmed to be calling just one game, but if all goes well, it’s hard not to envision it becoming a regular gig.“I’m really excited about this Buccaneers team and the upcoming season,” Gruden said. “It’s going to be a real thrill to be in the stadium again calling the game with one of the greatest Bucs ever! Hope to see you there!”Gruden served as an analyst for ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcasts from 2009-2017.He also served in roles for the network’s coverage of the NFL draft and postseason college football games. Before that, Gruden coached Tampa Bay from 2002 to 2008, famously winning Super Bowl XXXVII over his former team, the Oakland Raiders. The 48-21 win over the Raiders made the 39-year-old Gruden the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl at the time, which has since been beaten by Sean McVay, who won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams at 36 years and 20 days old.Guden’s broadcast partner, Barber, was also part of the 2002 team that won the Super Bowl.“I’ve been fortunate to spend the last 14 years calling Buccaneers preseason games with Chris Myers,” said Barber. Rather than go with another traditional play-by-play partner, I jumped at the chance to team up with my Super Bowl-winning coach, Jon Gruden. “It’s a unique opportunity to share the booth responsibilities with someone who sees the game the way I do and brings incredible passion, insight, and knowledge of the Buccaneers. “I’m looking forward to having some fun with my guy, JG, and hope everyone enjoys the broadcast when the Bucs take on the Chiefs on Saturday, August 22.”Gruden gets new show at Barstool Sports alongside his brotherAlongside his return to the booth, Gruden is getting a new show with Barstool Sports, who he has been employed with since 2024.Barstool founder Dave Portnoy announced they are hiring Jay Gruden to join his brother for a new football show, Gruden Family Football Show, which is set to debut in the fall.Jay previously hosted a podcast alongside Colt McCoy, AQ Shipley, and Justin Pugh called Clean Pocket for Underdog.Jay Gruden is joining Jon to host a new show on Barstool SportsGettyGruden has revived his draft quarterback film breakdowns during his time with Basrtool and become one of their most popular personalities. While his brother might not have the experience to match, pairing him with Jon should make the show a good one.Stay up to date with the NFL across all our talkSPORT platforms – subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news, opinion, exclusive interviews and our daily unfiltered, unscripted show ‘The S* Word, from 8am ET
