Wildlife Board member raises concerns over pruning of roadside trees in Bidar - The HinduPublished - July 23, 2026 07:34 pm IST - KALABURAGIEnvironmental activist and member of the State Board for Wildlife Vinay Malge has criticised Gescom authorities for pruning roadside trees at several places in Bidar, alleging that the exercise is being carried out in an unscientific manner in the name of protecting power lines.In a complaint submitted to the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), Bidar Division, Mr. Malge said that instead of cutting tree branches every monsoon to prevent them from touching electricity lines, the power utility should improve its electricity distribution infrastructure.He said repeated trimming over the years had affected the natural growth and structural stability of trees. According to him, cutting branches on one side has caused several trees to lean towards the road, increasing the risk to motorists, pedestrians and roadside property.Mr. Malge said tree-pruning is under way at several locations, including the stretch from Bommagondeshwar Circle to B.V. Bhoomareddy College on Gumpa Road, and the stretch towards the KEB office and the New Bus Stand Junction.He urged the Forest Department to examine whether the work was carried out after obtaining the required permission and in accordance with legal provisions. If violations are found, those responsible should face legal and departmental action, he said.Mr. Malge said he had raised the issue last year as well, but no effective action had followed.
