The researchers performed four annual cross-sectional surveys (2022–2025) targeting active embalmers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.The aim of their study was to record, via anonymous surveys, the frequency of reported sightings of these strange white fibrous structures, the percentage of corpses impacted, and the timeline of their initial appearance.Starting in 2020–2021, embalmers and funeral directors from various countries began to notice “large, tough, rubbery white or off-white fibrous structures in the veins and arteries of embalmed corpses,” which they identified as being different from traditional postmortem clots.
