With a blend of #4 and #6 pellets, these shells also use Kent’s Diamond Shot (premium polished lead shot, for uniform-sized pellets). Add it all up and you’ve got a dense pattern up close but also the long-range knockdown power for birds that are farther away. They say the new cartridge “stands apart as a premium upland load built specifically for rooster pheasants. It is designed for hunters who demand consistency, appreciate hard-hitting performance, and want a load capable of making the most of every opportunity in the field.” Well, the test of that will be when hunting season opens, and when that happens, you’ll see a 20-gauge and 12-gauge version of this cartridge. But the 12-gauge shell has 1 ⅜ ounces of shot traveling at 1400 fps, while the 20-gauge shell has 1 ¼ ounces of shot traveling at 1300 fps. These are supposed to be a return to one of their most popular waterfowl loads of the past.
