An elderly resident, two cats and a dog were safely rescued after a fire broke out in the common area of an apartment block in Żebbuġ yesterday afternoon.Firefighters from Civil Protection Department Stations 1 and 4 responded to the blaze after thick smoke spread rapidly throughout the building.Residents were evacuated as a precaution while crews worked to bring the fire under control. Two cats and one dog were also brought to safety.Once the blaze was extinguished, crews carried out ventilation and cooling operations to clear the remaining smoke and prevent the fire from reigniting.Thankfully, no injuries were reported.Officers from the Malta Police Force’s District 7 and Rapid Intervention Unit, along with a medical team from the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department, also assisted at the scene.•
