Tottenham made transfer mistake by ignoring free agent – but now there is a better option than Savinho

Wait 5 sec.

Tottenham have been told there is a better player at Manchester City they should be looking at signing over Savinho this summer.Spurs have long been interested in the Brazilian winger, coming close to getting a £60.7million deal done last year.City’s Savinho has been linked to Spurs yet again this transfer windowGettyAnd talkSPORT reported in May that they would be reigniting their talks for him heading into the current transfer window.Since then, Xavi Simons has teased that a potential move could be completed with a cryptic social media post last month. But on the latest episode of talkSPORT’s Inside Spurs, the panel weren’t very convinced that Savinho is the right man.In fact, Tottenham fan Sonny Snelling believes that they should be looking at one of his Man City teammates instead, saying: “For me, it leaves a bit to be desired. I don’t think he’s the finished article.“His first season he got 10 assists and one goal, last year again…one goal. And the fact Pep wanted to keep him last year but didn’t use him is a bit worrying to me.“For me, there are better options on the market. Even at Man City there’s a better option…“I’d rather go for Omar Marmoush. You can get him for a similar price, he can play as a striker, he can play off the left.“So, I would rather go for that…and apart from that, there are rumours about Marcus Rashford, but he’s on an extortionate amount [of money], so I don’t think we’d go for that.“If you want a manager to grow Savinho, you put a lot of hope in Roberto De Zerbi to do that.“But does he come in and improve what we’ve already got? I don’t know.”Should Spurs have looked at Marmoush instead of Savinho this summer?AFPSpurs’ transfer mistake Snelling also went on to admit that he thinks Tottenham made a mistake by not making a move for free agent Harry Wilson.Wilson left Fulham at the end of his contract following an impressive season that saw him score 10 goals and assist seven, while Savinho only scored one and provided two assists in the Premier League.Instead of moving to one of the Big Six though, Leeds pulled off an impressive coup to sign him free of charge. But he was someone that Snelling would rather have had over Savinho if they were to buy him for the reported fee.“I also said I’d rather have Harry Wilson on a free than pay £70m for Savinho,” he admitted. “He’s now gone to Leeds. “But I trust De Zerbi more to improve him [Savinho] than a Thomas Frank would have.”Wilson had an incredible season and signed for Leeds on a free last monthGettyAnother option? On top of Wilson, Marmoush and Rashford, Abbi Summers, another Inside Spurs regular, brought up a fourth name.“Someone asked whether I would have Harvey Barnes,” she said.“I would. He’s definitely an improvement on Mathys Tel, but I just want someone that’s a star…I hadn’t considered him. “Rashford I would completely take.”Summers does think that Savinho will eventually be the man to join the club though, adding: “I think we’ll get the deal over the line.“I don’t understand why they’re so incredibly hell-bent on it. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but I don’t understand the obsession.“But I’m here for it, we need someone on the left desperately, and I’m hoping with more consistent games he’d be able to thrive.
