XAUUSD: Balance Before Discovery? Reading the Auction, Not PrediGoldOANDA:XAUUSDMr_JudeThe market continues to revolve around one major higher-timeframe reference: the Weekly VWAP. Over the past two sessions, buyers have repeatedly pushed price into this area, but each attempt has been met with responsive selling. This tells me the market is still negotiating whether higher prices should become this week's accepted value. Until buyers can establish sustained acceptance above the Weekly VWAP, I continue to treat it as the market's primary decision point rather than simply viewing it as resistance. At the same time, today's session opened inside Monday's Value Area, suggesting that yesterday's perception of fair value remains intact. From an Auction Market Theory perspective, this is a strong indication that the market is currently balanced. Buyers and sellers are still willing to conduct business around the same prices, and that usually results in rotational price action rather than a sustained directional move. Another important reference is Monday's Point of Control (POC), the price where the greatest amount of business was conducted. As long as price continues rotating around this level, the auction remains in negotiation. A meaningful shift away from the POC, supported by acceptance and value migration, would indicate that the market is beginning a new phase. The Initial Balance High and Low continue to define the structure of Monday's auction. Monday's IB High was the first area where buyers demonstrated initiative and gained acceptance, while the IB Low marked the area where sellers failed to establish lower value. These levels remain key references because they represent where the market has already answered important auction questions. I am also closely monitoring the Previous Day High (PDH) and Previous Day Low (PDL). A breakout above the PDH is not automatically bullish, just as a move below the PDL is not automatically bearish. The real question is whether the market accepts those prices. If price can establish acceptance above the PDH, it would suggest buyers are successfully advertising and gaining acceptance at higher prices. Conversely, acceptance below the PDL would indicate that sellers are beginning to establish lower value and potentially initiate a new downside auction. The auction itself is asking a different question today than it did on Monday. Monday asked whether Friday's value should be rejected, and the market answered by reclaiming Friday's Value Area and initiating higher prices. Today, the question is whether participants can establish value outside Monday's balance. Until the market provides clear evidence of acceptance beyond Monday's Value Area, I continue to treat this as a balanced auction rather than the beginning of a new trend. Going forward, my focus remains on acceptance rather than prediction. If buyers can establish multiple closes above the Weekly VWAP, defend pullbacks, and push the developing POC higher, I will view that as evidence that the market is beginning another phase of price discovery. On the other hand, if sellers establish acceptance below Monday's Value Area, the developing POC migrates lower, and the market fails to reclaim the Weekly VWAP after rejection, that would suggest value is beginning to migrate downward. I don't trade breakouts alone, and I don't trade predictions. I trade acceptance. Price advertises opportunity, but value represents agreement. My edge comes from identifying where the market chooses to conduct business and allowing the auction to confirm its intentions before committing capital.
