Rapper Navio (Daniel Kigozi Lubwama) opened up about one of the most emotional moments he experienced while recording his upcoming album. He revealed that he nearly broke down in the studio after getting the opportunity to collaborate with the legendary Afrigo Band and veteran musician Moses Matovu.Speaking in an interview, Navio was asked to name the one person who stood head and shoulders above everyone else during the making of his forthcoming album. While acknowledging several influential figures in Uganda’s music industry, both before and after his era, he singled out Moses Matovu as the individual who left the biggest impression on him.Navio praised Matovu’s remarkable longevity in the music industry, noting that the Afrigo Band founder has spent 52 years entertaining audiences and continues to inspire generations at the age of 62.That’s Afrigo Band, and in particular, it’s Moses Matovu—and it will always be him. Fifty-two years in the industry, and he’s 62 himself. That’s no mean feat.The rapper went on to reveal that the collaboration involved the iconic Afrigo Band classic “Sikulimba,” a song that, according to him, had remained untouched for more than four decades.No one has touched ‘Sikulimba’ for about 40 to 46 years. They haven’t allowed anyone to get on it. So when Mr. Matovu came to the studio, he listened to the track, appreciated it, and decided to play on it.
