GoFundMe is still a symptom. It started out too keep people out of bankruptcy from their basic Healthcare needs. Then people used it to keep themselves from bankruptcy for housing, transportation, etc. And more and more people desperate to survive started using it. Then there was a break when people started requesting things that weren't necessities.
