Getting your food delivered is usually a pretty standard, low-stakes part of the day. However, as one TikToker recently shared, a quick trip to gather a delivery can come with funny or creepy consequences depending on how you perceive it. A user named kailemmcleodd took to TikTok recently to upload a throwback video that has already racked up 1.4 million views. In it, his attempt to gather a food delivery also came with a surprise via Apple’s iPhone AirDrop. In the clip, he explains what happened in his experience with DoorDash, and alleges via the on-screen caption for the video, “Thinking about the time the doordasher recorded me getting my food. Then airdropped the video laughing at me.” The caption for the post itself is simply, “Clipped via doordash.” It is important to note that we only have the perspective of the TikToker here, as we don’t have a confirmation of the event from the driver’s side. In the video, you can see the creator stepping out of his door and noticing the car. Then he is locked in an awkward stare-down with the driver while he picks up his food and steps back in. When a commenter asked, “what’s his problem,” referring to the driver, kailemmcleodd replied with the blunt assessment, “Did me DIRTY.” The community, for the most part, found it hilarious Some users were amused by the awkwardness of being caught on camera. One user commented, “its like recording an animal take the bowl of food you just gave them.” Those who get their food delivered were clear on how they would avoid the driver completely. One user wrote, “This would never happen to me. I will be watching from my window until I know for sure they are gone.” Then we got the perspective of the drivers that indicates that if it was the driver that sent kailemmcleodd the video, it was likely just a spot of harmless fun. One driver said, “When I door dash I think it’s so funny and cute when I deliver something and get back in my car look at my phone for like HALF of a second and when I look up again the order is gone like you guys are so freaking swift and lowkey sometimes I’m like damn that was FAST and I didn’t even see movement.” @kailemmcleodd Clipped via doordash ♬ The Prowler – d_is_for_ditman Another commenter, who mentioned they dash in Philadelphia with their boyfriend, chimed in, writing, “LMAOAOAOA me and my boyfriend doordash in philly and i think its hilarious when he catches people in the frame. just sucks cause i dont ever get to see the after photo cause its gone after u submit. so this is great.” One user even joked about the potential for future pranks, saying, “i’m so doing this if i have to drop food off at ANYONES house i know.” Then there was the contingent of drivers just like the customers who don’t want to meet anyone, “I drive for doordash occasionally, I drop the food and dip so fast. I dont want to see or talk to nobody.” Unlike this Dasher, a Redditor recently shared that the Dasher kept trying to message her, even asking for her number after a no-contact delivery. Of course, the reality of the job often involves strict protocols. According to the official Dash with Excellence guidelines for confirming delivery drop-off photos, Dashers are required to take a proof of delivery drop-off photo to complete the order. The instructions emphasize that once a high-quality, helpful photo is submitted, the delivery can be completed. Dashers are often encouraged to include surrounding features like a tree, doorway, or decor, and to ensure the image is well-lit. If a customer has specific instructions, like a floor number or intercom, those are visible in the app. If a delivery is contactless, the driver is told to place the order in front of the door and make sure the picture isn’t blurry. Sometimes, though, as a dasher shared, the instructions can change multiple times and be creepy. As for how the video actually made it to the customer’s phone, according to Apple, you can use AirDrop to wirelessly send photos, videos, and documents to a nearby iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Both devices need to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. They just need to be within 30 feet of each other and be open to receiving files, and not “Contacts only.”
