Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister, Mandy Mallia, shared a sobering reflection on social media following the 19th day of proceedings in the trial over the journalist’s assassination, responding to testimony heard in court the previous day.Mallia was referring to evidence given by Johann Cremona, a business associate of Yorgen Fenech – the alleged mastermind behind Daphne’s murder who described the distress he experienced after learning he was being secretly recorded.Quoting the testimony, Mallia wrote:“Yesterday, we heard a witness state in court in a tone of near-desperation – and clearly devoid of any nous – that ‘nobody has ever suffered as much pain’ (as he supposedly did with the self-confessed Daphne murder middleman starting to record him from the day after his (the witness’s) father’s funeral).”She contrasted that statement with the circumstances of her sister’s killing.“I don’t think that there could be any pain greater than having your limbs blown off with a blast, your remaining sentient, and your being burnt alive before another blast finally kills you.”Mallia added that the only comparable suffering was that endured by Daphne’s family.“The only thing that can come close to that would be knowing that that happened to your mother, and seeing the immediate aftermath.Or knowing that your daughter was killed in such a barbaric way, and seeing her still being vilified even now, years after her barbaric murder.”Cremona was the only witness to testify during yesterday’s hearing.Mallia has been sharing daily reflections throughout the trial, each accompanied by a different photograph of her sister.
