Air traffic control radio from atc.com synced with the airplane’s flight path shows the report coming in as the plane nears the airport.During the jet’s descent into LaGuardia at about 8:53 pm ET, the air traffic control tower said, “MANPAD alert issued at LaGuardia Airport at 0027. Use extreme caution.”The pilot responded, “Could you explain what a MANPAD is?”“Yeah, that’s a manned portable air defense system,” the air traffic controller said. “Yeah, it’s a basically was a report of a rocket launcher,” he added with a chuckle.“There was a report by the Port Authority Police. They said by, I believe, Terminal C. We’ve had conflicting reports, but nothing has been an issue as of yet,” the controller added.The pilot remained cool and calm, responding, “Okay, Delta 2604.
