Three nabbed from Kozhikode after alleged road rage assault in Kochi - The HinduUpdated - July 27, 2026 10:29 pm IST - KOCHIThe Thrikkakara police have arrested three men for allegedly assaulting three youths following a road rage incident near NGO Quarters Junction in Kakkanad in the early hours of Sunday.Those arrested are Shafin P.J., 30, of Kalamassery; Vibeesh. M., 26, of Chevary, Kozhikode; and Fahad Nadakkal, 31, of Aluva. They were nabbed from a hideout in Kozhikode, police sources said. Both Mr. Shafin and Mr. Vibeesh are history-sheeters with multiple cases of a similar nature registered against them, the police said.The trio, suspected to be associated with a Perumbavoor-based goon, were arrested even as one of the victims, who suffered a severe head injury, remained in critical condition.The alleged incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday when Praveen Kumar and his friends Mohammad Shafi and Nizam, all residents of Vazhakkala in Kochi, were returning home after attending a function.According to the police, a verbal altercation broke out between the two groups after the victims, who were riding two motorcycles, allegedly refused to give way to the other group’s car. The altercation soon escalated into the alleged physical assault.Mr. Praveen Kumar, who suffered a skull fracture and internal brain haemorrhage, was rushed to a nearby hospital in Thrikkakara from where he was shifted to another hospital as he required emergency neurosurgery. The others were undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery.The case has been registered on charges including attempt to murder, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, and wrongful restraint under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.A tense situation prevailed at the Thrikkakara police station after the friends of those who sustained serious injuries tried to stop the accused from being taken to the site of the incident for evidence collection. The window panes of the car belonging to the accused were damaged after they hurled stones at it.
