Letters to The Editor — July 28, 2026 - The HinduPublished - July 28, 2026 12:24 am ISTBeyond sympathyIt is amusing that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have expressed deep concern for the students and youth of the nation, particularly after the government faced sustained protests under the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). If they truly believe that students are important, should they not accept overall responsibility for unfortunate actions against students?Tharcius S. Fernando,ChennaiNow that the protest is over and a committee has been formed to recommend a robust mechanism for conducting examinations, I presume the issue will gradually be pushed into the background. However, to ensure effectiveness and improve the quality of students we prepare, the government must focus on strengthening the foundation of education, which begins at the school level. Instead of playing around with language and historical facts, the emphasis should be on building a strong value system and providing sound, science-based learning at all levels. The evaluation system, starting from the school level, also requires strengthening.K.
